The Galley Information

Tucked along 16236 General Puller Hwy in the quiet waterfront community of Deltaville, The Galley feels like the kind of place locals rely on and visitors are glad they stumbled across. Walking in, there’s an easygoing charm that immediately sets the tone-nothing pretentious, just a comfortable dining room where the focus is clearly on good food and friendly service.

The menu leans heavily into classic American comfort fare with a coastal Virginia twist. Seafood is a natural highlight given the location, and dishes like crab cakes and fried shrimp tend to show up frequently in reviews for a reason. The crab cakes, in particular, have that balance you hope for-plenty of lump crab meat without being overwhelmed by filler, lightly seasoned and pan-fried to a golden crust. There’s also a solid range of sandwiches, burgers, and daily specials, making it just as easy to grab a quick lunch as it is to sit down for a relaxed dinner.

One thing that stands out after a visit is how consistent the experience feels. The service is attentive without hovering, and staff seem genuinely familiar with both the menu and the regular crowd. It’s not unusual to hear servers greeting guests by name or offering recommendations based on what just came out especially well that day. That kind of local familiarity adds a layer of authenticity you don’t get everywhere.

Atmosphere-wise, it strikes a balance between casual diner and small-town seafood spot. The décor isn’t flashy, but it fits the setting-nautical touches here and there, clean tables, and a layout that makes it easy to settle in without feeling cramped. It’s the sort of place where you can show up in a T-shirt after a day on the water and feel completely at home.

From a location standpoint, being in Deltaville means it’s a bit off the beaten path compared to larger dining hubs, but that’s part of the appeal. Many diners mention in their reviews that it’s worth the short detour, especially if you’re exploring the Chesapeake Bay area. Pricing is reasonable, portions are satisfying, and while it may not aim for fine dining, it delivers exactly what it promises-a dependable, enjoyable meal in a welcoming setting.

What People's Say About Place

Food was good. Seemed under staffed and service was slow. Might be one of the best options though in this tiny town. Parking lot was full of cars. Seems to be a place the locals go. Small quaint little place to dine. The crab/lobster soup was delicious. The Reuben was amazing too.

Lovely, down to Earth, simple but very good menu. My husband had the chili (very generous portions!) and said it was like the ones he grew up with. I had their lunch special Rachel sandwich with hush puppies, and it was delicious. We got tempted by the homemade bread pudding, but it was sweeter than we are used to. Overall, a very pleasant experience, lovely service and affordable. Thanks for having us!!!

We've always had great food here. Hush puppies are great but an appetizer portion is huge so you might want to get a side portion instead.

We visited Deltaville mid week in October and found that this was one of the few places open all week. We ate there twice for lunch. I had the fried flounder sandwich one day and fried rockfish sandwich the other. Both were very good, I liked the tenderness of the flounder a bit better. A couple of the other guys had the burger, and they said it was very good. The side winder fries are terrific. This is a no frills kind of local spot. They were short staffed, but the two waitress were super friendly and really hussled. Outdoor seating, a bar area, and a dining room for seating options.

Love this place. I loved the waitresses who felt like aunties. The food was worthy of a Guy Fierri review. Home cooking at its best. Get the butter beans.

Delicious homemade food and dog friendly.. Before we even sat down they had a water bowl for our dog!!! That's awesome! Meatloaf and bread pudding was sooo good! Definitely coming back to try the rest of their menu items!

The food was really good. The only diaspointing thing to add was the waitress got part of the order wrong. So the she Brought the wrong item which we ate but had to remind her of what we really wanted was the oysters. So the bill was quite high. But all in the food was good.

Great spot in Deltaville for a casual dinner. Friendly service, good food and cold beer. Hush puppies and onion rings were tasty. Would also recommend the Reuben. Two options for dining - one room with the bar and another just with tables.
